NYC Chinese American Health Project: Smoking Cessation Initiative

The NYC Chinese American Health Project: Smoking Cessation Initiative is a four-year collaborative effort with the Chinese American community, sponsored by the State and Community Tobacco Control Interventions Program of the National Institutes of Health and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The principal aim is to plan, initiate, and evaluate innovative culturally appropriate community-based smoking cessation services in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, Asian Americans for Equality, and Columbia University. Project activities include survey research, organizational development, community mobilization assessment, and cost effectiveness analysis. It is the first scientifically conducted population-based trial to assess the costs and benefits of culturally appropriate smoking cessation services among Chinese Americans in the U.S.

"This project represents an outstanding opportunity to contribute to the quality of life of immigrants in New York City. We are developing research and programs that will save thousands of lives." -- Bob Kerrey, President of New School University
