Adult Care Facilities
Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging & Longevity of Hunter College/CUNY has enjoyed a collaboration with the New York State Department of Health for almost twenty years. During that time, through funding provided by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Brookdale Center has provided services to the Department of Health that focused on education of the owners, operators and all levels of staff of more than five hundred Adult Care Facilities (ACFs) throughout the State. Brookdale training programs provide these learners with the knowledge and skill sets needed to fulfill the responsibilities of their positions.
The ultimate goals of these educational programs have always been to protect the well-being of ACF residents and to provide them with the highest quality of life possible. To reach these goals, Brookdale Center has conducted needs assessments to determine the areas in which education would be beneficial to ACF operators and staff members. Subsequently, training curricula have been developed and delivered across the State by experts in the particular areas of focus. Some of the topics addressed in recent years have included: management of challenging behaviors in residents suffering with cognitive impairment, medication assistance for residents of ACFs, and case management focused on the unique needs of ACF residents. Post-training evaluations are conducted on an ongoing basis to ensure that information provided is state-of-the-art and that it meets learners’ needs.
